No way! I don't get it either, although I do agree that it happens a lot. I've often looked at yarns claiming to be the same ply and thought 'How is this possible?'. I'll be back to see if anyone does know! ;) Kx
No idea! But I think ply refers to the number of strands of yarn spun together rather than the thickness. I hope it doesn't ruin the new project. Happy week.
Yes I have noticed that a lot too! So annoying. Where they the same brand or different? I found I need to stick to the same brands for the best consistancy. Still slight differences I think at times but not as obvious! Whatcha makin'?
Someone's gotta know. I would also like to ask why it is that when you knit a something using the suggested yarn and you check your gauge and it's all fine, why is it that you only needed two balls of yarn and not the prescribed four? Huh? HUH? Grrrrr.

Oh another person with trouble with wool/acyrlic. Was one made in China? I have a friend who bought some Moda wool from Spotlight and it fell apart several times,it wasn't even joined together. Happy days. Bev.xoxo
I'm using a lot of american yarn at the moment (with the Aussie $ as strong as it is, how am I supposed to resist???), and am learning that swatching is essential because yarn weight is fairly vague. But I've always assumed that Australian yarn weight is fairly consistent, though thinking about it, that's not actually true in my experience, so I'm not sure why I have such blind faith in the Australian yarn industry...
I'm fast learning that swatching makes for a happier yarn crafter, at least when size is important!!
ooh lots of reasons, maybe diff brands, diff composition, diff colours (I know this sounds silly but it I have certainly noticed with some wool that different colours are slightly diff thickness, must be something to do with dye properties) plus maybe you were a little more/less relaxed when you did one rather that the other, that makes a huge difference with my crochet. Have you washed them as that will alter their size again, maybe one will grow and the other shrink?? Who knows...
