Meet my little virgo? Or is he a Leo? Born last Tuesday, 23 August, I’m not really sure. What I do know is that this has been one of the most blissful weeks of my life. Pure enchantment and wonder.
Born a week and one day early I finally got my vaginal birth. It wasn’t the wholesome earthy experienced I had originally dreamed of when I’d booked into our local birthing centre before the birth of our first son, rather I’d already been wheeled into the theatre, my legs up in stirrups under the bright lights, as I was being prepped for my third emergency c-section. For a third time my little babe’s heart rate was all over the place but at the eleventh hour with help from the head of Obstetrics (who’d been especially woken and called in for our birth) I got my VBAC. It was amazing. Watching my son being born will be a vision that I will never forget. The energy in the theatre after the birth was fantastic. The staff were all really pumped – as if they’d witnessed something mythical, a VBAC after two c-sections something to be read about in textbooks and journals. They wanted a VBAC as much as I did.
Like his older brother my little babe had some respiratory problems and waiting for him to take his first breath was an anxious time. He was whisked away to the special care nursery but it wasn’t long before he was doing well.
Feeding like a trooper he is certainly thriving now.
Im soooo happy for you guys, thats amazing and your new son is just beautiful! Congratulations!

ReplyDeleteCohen had a canula in his hand too for the first few days and then seemed a little annoyed once it was gone and he could bend his wrist again! :)
Oh Sal, I have been thinking of you and wondering how you are getting on, and you have been hanging out with Otis (great name). Congratulations on the VBAC...I had a VBAC for my second, after emergency Caesar (posterior, stuck, fully dilated). I had midwives come and visit the (crazy?) vbac chick! He's lovely. Hope you all settle in well together quickly xxx

ReplyDeleteEnjoy!!!
Oh yay, congratulations Sally, how are you, i was just thinking today, oh, baby time, after that gorgeous image of you heavily pregnant & looking fabulous. I've been uber super duper lucky to have 4 vaginal deliveries, including twins (we can be in the same text books of what is possible) & yes, it's truly amazing to push out that noggen, then the shoulders & body, straight onto your belly (mine were born fighting fit, didn't even cry, they just wanted to be fed). Oh he's so lovely, look at that beautiful face.
ReplyDeleteMy sister had a VBAC & realised that a Ceasar was definitely for her, so had her 3rd by C section & quite frankly was the ONLY delivery she enjoyed, the first 2 were disasters, panic stations & all that.
I do wonder how Obstetrician's discuss their day. Did he go home & say to his wife "well, Sally was fabulous, she was a VBAC, that's really something" over his breakfast?? Yay for you!! It certainly takes all types & the prize at the end is truly a healthy beautiful happy baby & very lucky parents & siblings. Love Posie
Big congratulations to you! He is absolutely adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh Sally, he is divine!!
